Summer 2018 in a Maillot

Hi everyone! I hope you all are having a great Summer so far! I meant to get this post out a little earlier in the season, but life got in the way of my swimsuit shopping…

First, let me say that this season I bought and wore my first one-piece swimsuit since junior high PE swim class, where I was forced (and likely traumatized for the next 40 years!) to wear a really unattractive navy blue Speedo suit! No disrespect to Speedo, but that sh** was ugly… and super unflattering on pretty much everyone.

I know that some ladies feel more comfortable in a one-piece, and get it when some say one-piece suits are “age appropriate”, but honestly I never wore one because they are super unflattering on me! I have a long torso, and not so long legs, and it’s just not a good combination! Bikinis have always been my go-to, and look far better, regardless of my age. That being said, there are so many cute maillots out this season, that I thought I might give a couple a try. Here are a few different styles of one-piece you might like to try:

Because I wasn’t sure this swimwear trend was for me, I initially spent very little to try it out. This suit from Forever21 was only $19.99, and it was money well spent. The verticals stripes and higher leg make it quite flattering. I did have to go up one size with any swimsuit I tried on there, but I will say that, at least in swimwear, their sizes were surprisingly consistent.

Once I established that the new maillots are for me, I looked at suits with a slightly higher price point, like this one from Robin Piccone. Because I waiting until later in the Spring/Summer 2018 season, I was fortunate enough to find a lot of swimsuits on sale at Nordstrom. I love the ruffle detail on this suit, and adjustable lace up back It would be great for a pool party, alone or under shorts or a skirt.

Ok, pardon the silly pic!! Of all the suits I got, this burgundy beauty by La Blanca is probably my fav to actually SWIM in. It has a nice liner, sturdy, adjustable straps, and really stays put when I swim laps. It’s also slightly higher in the leg and will be flattering on most body types.

Another great find at Forever21, and possibly my overall favorite, was this super cute red and pink suit. Like the first one, the price was under $25.00 ($22.99), and it such a great style for this season. It’s also lined and, again, a very flattering cut on most body types. It especially minimizes a larger bust line, while elongating the legs.

I was quite surprised how much I loved the one piece suits I tried/bought this season. I’ve been wearing them instead of bikinis most of the time. There are so many cute one-piece suits out there, so don’t be afraid to try a style you might not ordinarily try. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised how nice they look.
