Should we bring back the Scrunchie?

I’m sure many of us remember the Sex in the City episode in which Carrie and Burger have an arguement over the fact that a character in his book is wearing a scrunchie.  Later in the episode, they have a further debate about where a woman in a restaurant is from, based on the fact that she was still wearing a scrunchie.  (Season 6, Episode 78) As it turned out, according to the story line, no self-respecting modern New Yorker would be caught dead with one in 2004. While this story line was hysterical, I secretly still miss the pouffy little suckers.

For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, the Scrunchie is a thick,  fabric covered elastic pony tail holder, popular in the late 1980’s through the early 90’s. They were great because they didn’t leave a dent in your hair, you could quickly and easily hold a bun in place, and they came in so many different sizes, colors and fabrics!! They even preserved hairstyles if you put your hair up in a high pony with a scrunchie before going bed at night. Yep… I was a fan! I want a comeback!

According to a May 14, 2014 New York Post  article, scrunchies appeared to be all the rage with celebrities and other fashionistas in NYC that Summer. Initially the trend didn’t catch on in real life. However, much to my delight, it seems that now the comeback may be on its way. I have recently seen scrunchie displays at both Nordstrom and Lululemon!! To say that I’m excited about this is an understatement. Seriously… they’re great… especially for a quick pony or bun at the gym. So grab a scrunchie for yourself and let me know if you love the return of this trend as much as I do!
